Biopermethrin – Introduction
Biopermethrin is an organophosphate pesticide, chemically known as chlorinated urea phosphate. It’s a white crystalline solid, either odorless or with a slight distinctive smell. Biopermethrin is quite stable, barely evaporates at room temperature, and has low solubility.
Biopermethrin is mainly used in agriculture as a broad-spectrum, short-acting insecticide. It can control various pests like aphids, leafhoppers, and cotton bollworms. Its insecticidal action works by inhibiting phosphatase in the insect nervous system, disrupting nerve signals, which leads to paralysis and death.
Biopermethrin is mainly made through chemical synthesis. It can be produced by reacting phosphorus chloride with urea, followed by substitution reactions and purification to get the final product. It’s a toxic pesticide and poses some risk to human health. Direct contact with skin and eyes should be avoided, and when using it, appropriate protective gear like gloves and masks should be worn. During storage and transport, it should not be mixed with food, drinks, or other chemicals. Proper storage is important, keeping it out of reach of children and pets.
