Characteristics and Effects
Abamectin has stomach toxicity and contact killing effects on mites and insects, but it cannot kill eggs. Unlike general insecticides, its mode of action interferes with neurophysiological activity by stimulating the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which inhibits nerve transmission in arthropods. Adult mites, nymphs, and insect larvae show paralysis after contact with Abamectin, stop moving and feeding, and die in 2–4 days. Because it doesn’t cause rapid dehydration in insects, Abamectin works relatively slowly. Although it can directly harm predatory insects and parasitic natural enemies, its low residue on plants means minimal damage to beneficial insects. Abamectin binds to soil and doesn’t migrate, and it is broken down by microorganisms, so it doesn’t accumulate in the environment and can be used as part of integrated pest management. It’s easy to prepare—just pour the formulation into water and stir slightly—and is relatively safe for crops when used as recommended, without causing phytotoxicity. Suitable for crops such as vegetables, citrus, and cotton.
Target Pests:
Highly effective against resistant pests such as diamondback moth, leaf miners, and red spiders.
Application Techniques:
Abamectin has stomach and contact toxicity against mites and insects and is highly penetrative. When sprayed on plant leaves, it quickly penetrates the mesophyll to form numerous tiny drug sacs. Mite adults, nymphs, and insect larvae become paralyzed immediately upon feeding or contact, stop moving and feeding, and die in 2–4 days. Residues on leaf surfaces are minimal and rapidly decompose into non-toxic substances, resulting in little harm to natural enemies. Abamectin does not kill eggs.
Abamectin Dosage:
For controlling mites like red spiders or rust mites, use 1.8% Abamectin at 3000–5000 times dilution or add 20–33 mL of 1.8% Abamectin per 100 liters of water (effective concentration 3.6–6 mg/L).
For controlling caterpillars such as diamondback moth larvae, use 1.8% Abamectin at 2000–3000 times dilution or add 33–50 mL of 1.8% Abamectin per 100 liters of water (effective concentration 6–9 mg/L) for spraying. The best effect is achieved when applied at early larval stages; adding one-third dry weight of vegetable oil can enhance efficacy.
In cotton fields for red spider control, apply 30–40 mL of 1.8% Abamectin emulsifiable concentrate per acre (active ingredient 0.54–0.72 g), with an effective period of up to 30 days.
