Applications:
Bupirimate is a systemic fungicide and belongs to pyrimidine compounds. It is mainly used to prevent and control powdery mildew on various crops. Its mechanism of action is inhibiting adenosine deaminase (ADA). It can be quickly absorbed and transported through plant roots, stems, and leaves, providing both protective and curative effects.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has evaluated the use of bupirimate on various crops and proposed maximum residue limits (MRLs), for example: strawberries 2 mg/kg, grapes and berries 1.5 mg/kg, zucchini 3 mg/kg, peaches, apricots, and non-edible skin melons 0.3 mg/kg.
In Australia, the commercial product NIMROD® is registered for controlling powdery mildew on melons, apples, and ornamental plants. This product has contact, translaminar, systemic, and vapor activity, and under certain permits, it can also be used on crops like eggplants and peppers. It’s the only Group 8 fungicide registered for use in Australia.
