Buprofezin Uses
Buprofezin is a new selective insecticide that inhibits insect growth and development. It has strong contact action and stomach toxicity. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit chitin synthesis in insects and interfere with metabolism, causing nymphs to become deformed after molting or adults to malform their wings and die slowly. Generally, it takes 3~7 days after application for the pesticide to become effective. It does not directly kill adults but can shorten their lifespan, reduce egg production, and most eggs are sterile. Even if larvae hatch, they die quickly. Buprofezin is highly selective and effective in controlling planthoppers, leafhoppers, whiteflies, and scale hydrocarbon pests of the order Homoptera, and it also has persistent larvalicidal activity against certain Coleoptera pests and pest mites. It can effectively control planthoppers and leafhoppers on rice, leafhoppers on tea and potatoes, whiteflies on citrus, whiteflies on citrus, and scale insects on citrus, as well as scale insects on fruit trees and tea trees. The drug has an effective period of more than 30 days. It is relatively safe against natural enemies of pests and has good overall effects. No interaction resistance issues with other insecticides.
How to use
Foliar spray, 50~600 gAI/ha; Foliar powder spraying, 450~600g/ha; Submerged application, 600~800g/ha. For example, 25% Buprofezin wettable powder at a dose of 375~750g/ha can control planthoppers, leafhoppers, and greenhouse whiteflies on rice and vegetables; 800~1000g/ha can control scale insects on fruit trees and tea. Effective for 35~40 days, safe against natural enemies and flower-visiting insects, with no cross-resistance to other insecticides, but slow onset. Pest damage can only be controlled 3~7 days after application, so when pest density is high, it should be used in combination with fast-acting insecticides.
1. Rice Pest Control:
(1) Rice planthoppers and leafhoppers: Spray once during the peak stage of young nymphs in the main pest generation, using 20–30g of Youlede 25% wettable powder (active ingredient 5–7.5g) per mu, diluted with 5–10kg of water, low-volume spraying or regular spray of 40–50kg of water, focusing on the middle and lower parts of the plants.
(2) Buprofezin for controlling rice brown planthoppers: during the main generation and the previous generation, from peak egg hatching to the peak emergence of young nymphs, apply 25% wettable powder at 20~30 grams per mu, dilute with water, and spray evenly once on each main pest-infestation-infested area (middle and lower part of rice plants) to effectively control damage. Applying pesticides at the peak stage of the main nymph pest generation of brown planthoppers can also treat white-backed planthoppers and leafhoppers, achieving an effectiveness of 81–100%.
2. Pest control in fruit trees: To control citrus arrowhead beetles, during the peak period of young nymphs, spray evenly with 25% wettable powder diluted 1500~2000 times (125~167 mg/kg) for good results.
3. Control of tea leaf pests: Control tea leafhoppers, black whiteflies, long white grubs, and tea orange gall mites. During the off-harvest period of tea leaves, the peak outbreak of young nymphs or mites, and when mite density is high, use 25% Buprofezin wettable powder diluted 750~1000 times (250~333 mg/kg). When mite density is low, spray evenly with a 1000~1500 times dilution (167~250mg/kg) to effectively control mite damage.
4. Buprofezin controls whiteflies on greenhouse vegetables such as cucumbers and tomatoes. During the peak period of young nymphs, spray evenly with 25% wettable powder diluted 2000~2500 times (100~125mg/kg) for good control and can also treat tea mites and similar conditions.
